I give a lot of my credit to my parents, they have been my role models and biggest critics. As the chief’s daughter, it still shocks me sometimes that I come from a bloodline of Crow Dog’s, and I only wish to build on that legacy with honor and respect. My mother being a Spotted Calf, have always been humbling for me to understand and appreciate that her side of the family had raised and shielded me. Both my father and mother can be spiritually gifted but also did drawings with color pencils and fine beadwork. With me, my parents believe I got a double whammy with double the talents from both, since I can do art and beadwork. My mother also taught me how to be independent and to flourish like a flower, while my father taught me to always be kind and to continue to listen when knowledge speakers speak. To also add, the starburst colors, also known as the sunset colors, which are white, yellow, orange, and red, are the unity of our people and for the great plains. Without my parents, I wouldn’t be the young Lakota woman I am today.
