 The word parfleche comes from the French words Parer--defend and fleche--arrow. They were strong enough to be a shield to protect one's self from arrows; however, they were mainly used for containers to carry any number of personal items. 

These parfleche boxes are painted slight detailed by a local artist Mike Marshall. They are 3.5" by 30",
