Lavender and Blue Children's Turtle Star Quilt
This hand-made lavender and blue star quilt features a turtle design in the center and was made by local artist Shirley Hunter. It measures 48"x 43.5". It's the perfect size for a child.
Since the buffalo went near extinct in the late 1800's, The Lakota people adopted the art of quilt making and this served as a replacement for Buffalo robes. The Lakota use the star quilt as a symbol of honor and recognition in which a star quilt is given to someone for the accomplishments they have achieved.
Today, Star quilts are used for numerous reasons such as naming ceremonies, graduations, achievement recognition and as gifts to others. Small star quilts are given to children to thank them for honoring us with their lives and to symbolize their still strong connection to the stars.
