Bitter Root, or Sweet Flag (A. calamus), is a type of wetland plant that was traditionally used by plains Indians to treat sicknesses, ranging from fevers and sore throats, to muscle cramps and digestive problems.

Today, Bitter Root has been acknowledged to be beneficial in treating high blood pressure, heart disease, and diabetes.

 

Can be smudged with, ground into a poultice, cooked with, or made into tea.
